Galatians 5:22-23

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

In today's world it is a "me" society. We feel like we have to look out for numero uno and everything is all about me. What I want and what I want to do. But God takes care of us. He sure does a better job than we do. Gentleness is being meek and humble. A lot of people think that being meek and humble is a sign of weaknesses but that's not true. Jesus was gentle, meek and humble and He sure didn't have any weakness. People in today's world have forgotten how to be humble. They think that everyone should cater to them and their needs...that everyone owes them something. It is also a society of I want it and I want it right now. No waiting, no patience, no humility. In Proverbs 16:18 it says that pride goes before destruction and in Proverbs 15:33 it says humility comes before honor. Even if we have had a tough life God wants us to know that we have choices in life. We can either be given a promotion or we can be destroyed. It all depends on what we choose to do. We can either have a gentle spirit towards others or we can think it is all about us. It's our choice.

We can give a "gentle answer" instead of screaming at someone or getting nasty with them because they said something nasty to us. Don't be full of pride. Don't try to do everything by yourself. Gentleness means to be considerate or kindly in disposition; tender. It also means not harsh or severe; mild and soft - such as a gentle scolding. So we can be given discipline and it can still be given gently. There are many ways to be gentle. It is a reflection of Jesus in our lives. Read your Bible - look and see how many times Jesus said a gentle word or did a gentle action.
