Micah 6:1-8
1 Listen to what the LORD says: "Stand up, plead your case before the mountains; let the hills hear what you have to say.
1 Listen to what the LORD says: "Stand up, plead your case before the mountains; let the hills hear what you have to say.
2 Hear, O mountains, the LORD's accusation; listen, you everlasting foundations of the earth. For the LORD has a case against his people; he is lodging a charge against Israel.
3 "My people, what have I done to you? How have I burdened you? Answer me.
4 I brought you up out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. I sent Moses to lead you, also Aaron and Miriam.
5 My people, remember what Balak king of Moab counseled and what Balaam son of Beor answered. Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the righteous acts of the LORD."
6 With what shall I come before the LORD and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?
7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8 He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah is a prophet. He's telling Israel what God is saying. In this Scripture my Bible says the Controversy between God and Israel. In this Chapter, God is saying "Hear my complaint." He's asking Israel what have I done to you? Tell me why you think I have made you so tired. Why are you seeking out idols; why are you tired of worshipping me? A lot of times the people of Israel sought idols. It was sin and it moved them away from God. God is reminding them that He brought them out of Egypt and took them out of slavery. He also sent them Moses to guide them. The people of Israel then ask the Lord what He wants them to do; should they make sacrifices to Him and they go through this whole spiel of what they think God might want them to give up. We do that today too...we say to God, "Do you want me to give up everything?" Sometimes we exaggerate what we think God really wants. God tells Israel that they already know what is good. All that God required of them was to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with their God.
Sometimes you ask someone what God's Will is for their lives and they think that's such a deep question. It's not really mysterious, although sometimes we lose the vision God has for us. Then all we have to do is go into His Word. All we need to do as believers is to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly before God. That's it. Nothing really complicated about it. God simply tells us how to be. God is concerned with our attitudes. He wants right hearts. We need to listen to Him always, just trust Him and basically just surrender everything to Him. It's not really that hard to do. Just be humble before Him, recognize that He is God.
