Psalm 125 Amplified Bible
1[a] THOSE WHO trust in, lean on, and confidently hope in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but abides and stands fast forever.
1[a] THOSE WHO trust in, lean on, and confidently hope in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but abides and stands fast forever.
2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about His people from this time forth and forever.
3 For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the land of the [uncompromisingly] righteous, lest the righteous (God's people) stretch forth their hands to iniquity and apostasy.
4 Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, and to those who are right [with You and all people] in their hearts.
5 As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways [of indifference to God], the Lord will lead them forth with the workers of iniquity. Peace be upon Israel!
I just love Psalm 125. Well of course I love all of them; after all it is God's Word and always good. When we trust and lean on God, then we are like a mountain that is rock solid. God encircles us just like the mountains surround Jerusalem. Praise God! He not only surrounds us with His perfect love but He surrounds us with protection. He guards us and watches over us. With Him, we have security. I like to think that He surrounds us with a wall of fire - His power! Glory!!
We need to be careful however that we do not fall into sin. Going in crooked ways such as immoral acts, turning away from the Word of God and just going back into the world will lead us to hell. We have a choice to make. We can be faithful to God or we can lead sinful lives. He warns us that if do not follow Him that we would be like the wicked and suffer a similar fate. Keep our hearts right with God. He will sometimes let us go through trials so that we may learn to trust and hope in Him. Then when we come out of it, we know that it was by His power and strength. There will be times when we will encounter mean spirited people, experience peer pressure and may even be persecuted for our beliefs. But God! He will protect us and comfort us. This Psalm ends with a prayer for "peace upon Israel." In Psalm 122:6 it tell us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. We should also pray for the peace of God to rest upon us.
