Psalm 127:3-5 The Message Bible

3-5 Don't you see that children are God's best gift? the fruit of the womb his generous legacy? Like a warrior's fistful of arrows are the children of a vigorous youth. Oh, how blessed are you parents, with your quivers full of children! Your enemies don't stand a chance against you; you'll sweep them right off your doorstep.

Ahhh yes...children are God's best gift! This version is from The Message Bible. I like this because children are truly God's gift to us. I like how this version says "the fruit of the womb his generous legacy." Definition of the word legacy: Gift of personal property through a will by the writer of the will (the "testator) to an individual or organization (the legatee). Legacies are generally classified as (1) Demonstrative: paid out of specific funds or portioned out of a specific property. (2) General: not clearly identified, such as "a house." (3) Pecuniary: specified sum of money or an annuity. (4) Residuary: what is left out of a personal estate. (5) Specific: clearly identified, such as, "My beach-house (there you go Elder Bair)! ." See also inheritance. Children keep our name and family alive in years to come. Children are a heritage and a reward! They are not burdens but a blessing (and so are grandchildren). When they are young, you should be directing them and guiding them because as they grow older there are many arrows that will be directed towards them. If we keep them trained in God's Word, they will remember and will not stray. This is also true with our "spiritual children." Those ones who do not have anyone to lead them or guide them. Take in our spiritual children and also guide them.

In Solomon's days, grown children would take care of their parents when they were old. In the old days, children would stand and plead their parents cases against their adversaries in judicial courts. If it was not in the courts, they would do it publicly. They defended the arrows that would come against their parents. God will always provide for us. He knows what we need to provide for ourselves and children. I like how this version says that the enemies will be swept off our doorstep! Today let us just thank God for our children, our grandchildren, even great grandchildren. Thank You Lord for all You have given us!
