Matthew 6:5-15 (New Living Translation)
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
"This, then, is how you should pray:" 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.[a]'
For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Many people believe that all believers pray. Unfortunately that is not always true. Many believers just do not take the time out of their day to pray. We should be praying at all times. Jesus showed his disciples how to pray. He told them to first seek the Kingdom of God, then everything else will be added. We pray for His glory, His Kingdom and His Will to be done. Ask for His daily bread that teaches us. Pray for us to have compassion for the poor. Also pray to our Heavenly Father. Pray that we will not get tempted and that we do not tempt others. Forgive others just as our Heavenly Father has forgiven us. Pray in your secret place. This is how we should pray.
This is Election Day today. Please pray for God's Will to be done in our nation. I am not going to tell you to vote for a particular candidate. I just want you to realize what a privilege and blessing it is to be able to cast your vote. Many other countries do not have the same privilege. Those who are working at the polling places need our prayers also. Pray for the equipment to function properly. Also for those who are handicapped and the elderly - that they will be able to have handicapped accessible polling places and they will be able to vote without any problems. Remember to pray for whoever gets into office. In I Timothy 2:1-4 Paul tells us to pray for kings and all who are in authority.
