Titus 3:4-7 New Century Version
4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior was shown,
4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior was shown,
5 he saved us because of his mercy. It was not because of good deeds we did to be right with him. He saved us through the washing that made us new people through the Holy Spirit.
6 God poured out richly upon us that Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ our Savior.
7 Being made right with God by his grace, we could have the hope of receiving the life that never ends.
This Book is an instruction to Titus and how he should give directions to others in the church. His instructions were pretty simple and easy to understand. Paul trusted Titus as a minister. Paul sent him to troubled places like Corinth and Crete. His teachings were about living right and that it is expected of all believers. Paul wants to make sure that we don't get good works confused with righteous living. When we were saved it was because of God's mercy and not because of anything good that we had done. He washed us through the Blood of Jesus - cleansed us and made us whole with God so we could have life everlasting. How awesome is that?! In the earlier chapters of Titus, Paul left Titus in Crete to put things in order and to put the elders in the right position in the different cities. It talks about setting the church in order. This Book is more calm than in Timothy and is easy to understand. As in the I and II Books of Timothy, the promise of life is spoken about here. It talks about how foolish we were in the world and how through Jesus our lives were changed. The kindness of God, the sweetness of God is talked about here also. It is by His grace that we have hope and life abundantly. Let us thank our Father for the directions that He has given us by reading His Word.
