Leviticus 23:27-32 NIV
27 "The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. Hold a sacred assembly and deny yourselves, [a] and present an offering made to the LORD by fire. 28 Do no work on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the LORD your God. 29 Anyone who does not deny himself on that day must be cut off from his people. 30 I will destroy from among his people anyone who does any work on that day. 31 You shall do no work at all. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live. 32 It is a sabbath of rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening you are to observe your sabbath."
Today is Yom Kippur and it is found in this Scripture. It is a Fall Feast and it is the Day of Atonement. The purpose of this day is to bring people to the altar and repent. God wants people to gather in His presence and dwell on Him. This is a day to humble yourself and search your soul and be truly sorry for your sins. It is a serious requirement as in Verse 29 it says that if anyone does not humble himself, they will be cut off from their people. It is easy to understand this Feast because it is a day where we atone for sins between man and God. This is a day to do soul searching and asking God to cleanse you. It is a rule of this day to fast. While today is a day to fast, the night before Yom Kippur is a time of eating and preparing for the fast.
Today many of our Jewish brothers and sisters will be in synagogues fasting, soul searching and repenting for sins against God. We should be doing the same. Even though most of us will be working today, let us take time out of our day to observe the Feast of Yom Kippur. This is a perfect time for us to search our souls, repent and ask God to forgive and cleanse us.
Luv ya all and hope you all have a blessed day! Remember to take time out of your day to observe Yom Kippur.
