Luke 9:26 NIV

26 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

In verses 23-27, Jesus is explaining the consequences for the disciples who choose to follow Him faithfully in view of His rejection. To have the sense of being ashamed of something or someone is pretty strong. The word ashamed means 1. feeling shame; distressed or embarrassed by feelings of guilt, foolishness, or disgrace. 2. unwilling or restrained because of fear of shame, ridicule, or disapproval. Remember when you were a child and your mother or father said they were disappointed in you. How did that make you feel? We don't want our Father saying those words to us. We want to be able to spread the His Word so that we can show others the Light of the World. If we don't want to tell our friends and neighbors about Jesus because we are afraid of what they might think of us or won't approval of us, then we are being ashamed of the Gospel. I know I don't want God to be disappointed in me or ashamed of me so I want to do whatever God wants me to do; even if it means that someone will make fun of me or disapprove of me. Be faithful to God. Be proud of our heavenly Father. He gave His only Son for us. When Jesus comes in all His glory, I want Him to accept me because I was loyal to Him and because I spread His message here on earth. I want to fulfill the Will of God in my life. This means living for His sake rather than our own.
